The Village of Glen Carbon is looking for five residents to volunteer as “at large” members of the Glen Carbon Residents’ Advisory Board (“RAB”). To serve on the RAB, an eligible resident needs to provide proof of residency and to fill out an application at Village Hall by the end of the day on Friday, April 28, 2017. To be eligible, an applicant must be at least 21 years old and have resided in the Village for at least one year.
For purposes of the RAB, the Village is divided into five (5) geographically equal areas based primarily on population. The residents' advisory board map will be available for inspection during normal business hours in the Village Clerk’s office. If more than one resident applies from a certain area, then the member from that area will be objectively selected by pulling one (1) name out of a hat at noon on Friday, May 5, 2017. Then the successful applicants from the five areas will be appointed to the RAB during the Village Board meeting on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.
The RAB consist of seven voting members - five appointed at large and two appointed by the Mayor. The RAB meets at least quarterly or additionally as the majority of the RAB members deem necessary. It is expected that the next RAB meeting will take place in May 2017 at a mutually convenient time for all RAB members. In the past, the RAB has reviewed a variety of issues assigned to it by the Village Board or Mayor, made independent objective recommendations to the Village Board and Mayor, and scheduled forums on topics of interest. If you have questions, please call the Village Hall at 288-1200.
